AI technology pilot to support decarbonisation
The Howard de Walden Estate (HdWE) has partnered with MapMortar to pilot its cutting-edge AI digital twin technology in a bid to turbo-charge the audit and assessment of sustainability risks and opportunities across the Estate. Working with MapMortar’s AI powered platform will enable a simpler, faster, and more strategic decarbonisation process for us as property owners and if proven successful will support our commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2040.
The pilot project encompasses the modelling of 13 buildings from our commercial portfolio. Utilising MapMortar's machine-learning simulation capabilities we can identify specific decarbonisation measures tailored to each asset, taking account of their unique characteristics such as existing services and actual energy performance. This collaboration aims to enhance our approach to asset management including audit, planning and commercial decision making.
By leveraging MapMortar's GIS technology alongside the AI Agent, HdWE receives a bespoke decarbonisation plan, complete with costs and a sequential pathway for implementing the recommended interventions. This pioneering approach challenges the traditional method of undertaking detailed site-based audits, which are often time-consuming and rely heavily on detailed information for each asset being provided upfront. Other advantages include:
- Time efficiency: Significant reduction in data capture, audit and model creation time
- Enhanced accuracy: Ingestion of asset information into the platform to tailor specific measures for each asset
- Improved collaboration: Identification of both landlord and occupier improvement opportunities
- Visibility of cost plan: Indicative appraisals to help plan future capital expenditures
- Global view: Quickly identify and model estate-wide scenarios for multiple asset types
The pilot hopes to demonstrate how the use of AI can accelerate decarbonisation pathways whilst saving time on the technical and financial planning of retrofits. It has the potential to fundamentally transform how property owners, like HdWE, manage and execute their net zero carbon aligned strategies.
MapMortar’s CEO and Co-founder, Ranjeet Bhalerao, said, "The Howard de Walden Estate has truly exemplified what it means to be a visionary landlord committed to sustainability. Our pilot is allowing them to deploy innovative technology, providing a deep understanding of the challenges faced in retrofitting large portfolios. We are privileged to support Howard de Walden in its progressive journey, demonstrating the transformative power of advanced, AI-driven solutions towards net-zero real estate."
Howard de Walden’s Head of Sustainability, Simon Tranter, said, “This pilot highlights the transformative potential of AI technology in addressing the large and complex decarbonisation challenges faced by the UK real estate sector. Our portfolio of nearly 900 buildings requires quick, accurate and scalable solutions to be identified, and MapMortar’s technology has the potential to streamline this process. As early adopters in this initiative, we are enthusiastic about exploring AI-driven technologies and incorporating the data-driven insights into our everyday decision-making to help advance our decarbonisation objectives.”
