London's Knowledge Clusters

The London Property Alliance’s (LPA) new report titled London’s Knowledge Clusters: From Emerging to Maturing, highlights the urgent need for additional investment to support London’s developing life science sector.

The report emphasises the essential measures required from both the private and public sector to unlock London's potential as a leading force in the field of life sciences.

The Howard de Walden Estate has taken the lead in shaping the world-famous community of Harley Street Medical Area, offering the very highest level of patient healthcare and expertise. We are acutely aware of the importance and value the life science sector brings to the United Kingdom and are in full support of the LPA’s call to the Government to advance plans to help Britain become a “science superpower.”

The report highlights the critical need for investment to cultivate knowledge clusters - the geographical locations attracting healthcare and scientific occupiers – which are paramount in enabling London to emerge as a global life science hub.

Harley Street Medical Area is home to nearly 4,000 consultants and two million sq ft of medical floor space which, under Howard de Walden’s careful and considered stewardship, now stands as a world-class medical destination which drives innovation by blending healthcare, research and life science. We have seen first-hand the value collaboration can bring to the healthcare and life science sectors, as well as the wider national economic growth and prosperity.

As the LPA establishes, London has the potential to become the leading global hub for life science but there is a dire need for further national support and greater planning clarity locally to support this growth.

Howard de Walden is entering a new chapter as we begin to adapt our heritage buildings to accommodate an evolution into healthtech. Though not providing traditional lab space, we will instead focus more on providing space for digital health and AI to grow in the area, a critical piece of the life science puzzle London faces.

We are proud to have sponsored, alongside other major REITs, FTSE 250 companies and developers, this market leading research and are looking forward to help drive this exciting and prosperous sector within the Capital.
