'So much better to be turning on the lights, than turning off the lights.
Thank you for making my dream come true.’
Comedienne and mental health ambassador Ruby Wax will switch on this year’s Marylebone Christmas lights to help raise awareness and vital funds for young people’s mental health and wellbeing charity YoungMinds.
Sarah Brennan YoungMinds Chief Executive said: “It’s a great honour for us to be working with Ruby Wax at this special event and we are delighted to be the nominated charity to turn on this year’s Marylebone Christmas lights. It represents a great opportunity for us to meet with Marylebone’s local residents to highlight our important work with young people to improve emotional wellbeing and mental health.”
Toby Shannon The Howard de Walden Estate Chief Executive said: “ We are delighted to be supporting Young Minds this year as part of our Marylebone Christmas Lights Switch On Event. The event has become an important date in the Marylebone Village diary and is always very popular. We feel it is also a great opportunity to raise money and awareness for good causes, such as Young Minds. We are particularly pleased to have Ruby Wax attending, on behalf of the charity, and turning on the lights for us and we hope that she and everyone else will enjoy the evening.”
Ruby Wax has done much work to promote awareness of mental health issues, and has worked with BBC Headroom to interview people with first-hand experience of mental health problems. As part of this work Ruby has interviewed our young ambassadors Sarah and Jacob http://www.bbc.co.uk/headroom/emotional_health/support_for_young_people.shtml?young_minds
Ruby’s current stand-up show Losing It deals with her own experience of bipolar disorder and is touring the UK. Her tour has included special performances for mental health charities including YoungMinds.
